One long, unforgettable day: a coach to the Normandy coast, the abbey on its granite
island and time to wander the ramparts. Which tour to book, how long you really get there, and what to expect.

Mont Saint-Michel Full-Day Trip from Paris by Coach
Prices are Viator from-prices in USD per adult at our last update (September 2026); they
move with season and demand. The village walking tour was on sale from $166 when we checked. Children pay a little
less on most coach trips. Bought direct, the abbey costs €16 from April to September and €13 from October
to March, and is free for under-18s and EU residents aged 18 to 25. None of the Mont Saint-Michel day trips includes lunch or
hotel pickup. Every day trip here cancels free up to 24 hours ahead; the 2-day tour needs 3 days' notice.
The honest version
Fourteen hours, eight on the road: and still worth it.
Mont Saint-Michel sits on the border of Normandy and Brittany, about 360 km west of Paris. There is no
quick way to get there, which is why the coach day trip is so popular: someone else drives, the abbey ticket is
already bought, and you arrive with about four hours on the Mont. Guests leave around 7 AM and are back
after 9 PM. Nearly every review says the same thing: long day, worth it.
Know the small print before you book. The coach parks on the mainland, so the last stretch is the free
Le Passeur shuttle (about 12 minutes) or a walk of 40 minutes or more across the bridge, and summer
queues eat into your time. Inside the abbey the classic trips give you an audio app, not a guide, so
bring earphones and a charged phone. And the Mont stands on sand flats most of the time: it becomes a true
island only at the biggest tides.

One of our Paris trip highlights! Worth every penny: the bus was clean and we didn't have to worry about figuring out travel plans. Mont Saint Michel is out of a storybook.
★★★★★
The travel time is long, but I felt that the amount of time we had at Mont St Michel was just right. We were able to tour the Abbey, get a nice lunch, and go through the shops in the time given.
★★★★★
Only 6 people, which makes this tour more personal. He gave us insider tips on what was must see and what to avoid. The cider tasting on the way home was super cool too.
★★★★★
A memorable side trip from our Paris vacation. A whole day affair but worth the 4 hour trip in a comfortable air conditioned coach bus. The Abbey and its surrounding walled town was serene!
★★★★★
The tour was great but be prepared to walk a lot of steps. Dee was a great tour guide, very nice and informative.
★★★★★
We were in Paris for 6 days and decided to use one to take a day trip. So glad we picked this one. The trip there is on the longish side for a day trip, but our guide kept us informed throughout the drive.
★★★★★
Very fun day trip! The whole trip was smooth. It was a very long day, but super worth it for me traveling solo.
★★★★★
Despite the long bus ride, it is more than worth it as you approach this beautiful island. The countryside is covered with sheep, very tranquil. The host was very knowledgeable about the history of the area.
★★★★★
Full day trip about 14 hours. Had a great guide and safe drivers. The tour was well organized and on time.

Two days in Normandy?
Add the D-Day beaches on another day
The same operator runs its best-reviewed day trip to the landing beaches from the same Porte Maillot

Normandy D-Day Landing Beaches Day Trip with Lunch
★ 4.8 · 10,107 reviews · 14 hours
Same operator, same meeting point, different Normandy: a guided coach day to the D-Day landing beaches. You visit the Utah Beach Museum, walk the Pointe du Hoc battlefield, stand on Omaha Beach and spend time at the American Cemetery at Colleville-sur-Mer, with a two-course lunch and a glass of Norman cider.
Mont Saint-Michel is one of the most recognisable places in France: a granite island crowned by a
Benedictine abbey, standing in a bay with some of the biggest tides in Europe. It is also a long way from Paris.
Here is how the coach day trip works, what it really includes and how to get the most from your hours there.
What you are going to see
The Mont is a small tidal island at the mouth of the Couesnon river, on the border between Normandy and
Brittany. According to tradition, Aubert, the bishop of Avranches, founded a sanctuary to the Archangel Michael
here in 708; Benedictine monks arrived in the 10th century and built the abbey that crowns the rock today. Below
it, a single main street, the Grande Rue, winds up through the walled village. The Mont and its bay have been a
UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979. There is no entrance fee for the village: only the abbey charges.
About four hours each way: the coach is part of the day, so pick a trip you are comfortable on.
What the coach day trip really includes
The classic City Wonders trip is from about $136 on Viator in 2026. It covers the coach from Porte Maillot, a
tour leader who briefs you on the way, the abbey ticket and a self-guided audio app. It does not include hotel
pickup, lunch or a guided visit of the abbey. The budget Extime coach, from about $103, also includes the abbey
ticket but gives you a host rather than a guide, and has no restroom on board. If you want someone to show you the
Mont in person, choose the small-group minivan or a guided coach option.
The honest small print: the complaints in the reviews are rarely about the Mont itself.
They are about the length of the day, the walk or shuttle queue between the coach park and the island, and the
audio app, which needs your own earphones and phone battery. Plan for all three and the day goes smoothly.
Coach, train or small group?
You can go by train: the direct train and coach from Paris Montparnasse to the Mont takes around four hours and
costs about €32 each way per adult, and it runs daily from April to October. Add the abbey ticket and you are
near the coach-tour price, with fewer departures and your own connections to make. The train makes most sense if
you stay a night nearby and see the Mont in the evening, when the day-trippers have gone. For a day trip, the coach
is the simplest way; the small group costs more but is quicker, more personal and adds a cider tasting.
The tide comes in fast across the flats: watch it from the ramparts, never from the sand.
Making the most of your four hours
Head for the abbey first, while your legs are fresh and before the midday crowds, and allow about an hour
inside. Eat early, then come down by the ramparts for the views across the bay, and browse the Grande Rue last. Keep
an eye on the time: guests say the shuttle queues in the afternoon can be long, and the walk back across the bridge
takes 40 minutes or more. Be at the coach on time; it will not wait long.
Walking shoes, a rain jacket, a scarf and earphones: the day-trip kit.
Straight answers to what travelers ask most about visiting Mont Saint-Michel from Paris.
Can you do Mont Saint-Michel in a day from Paris?
Yes, but it is a long day. The Mont is about 360 km from Paris, so every day trip spends roughly four hours on the road each way. Coach tours leave around 7 AM and guests report getting back after 9 PM, for about 14 hours door to door and three to four hours on the Mont itself. See is the day trip worth it.
How long is the bus ride from Paris to Mont Saint-Michel?
About four hours each way by coach, with one restroom stop. Guests on the budget coach report four to five hours depending on traffic, and Sunday evenings back into Paris are the slowest. Small-group minivans are a little quicker.
How much time do you get at Mont Saint-Michel on a day tour?
Around four hours on the classic coach trips, which is enough for the abbey (about an hour), lunch and a walk on the ramparts. Remember that the last mile is a shuttle ride or a 40-minute walk from the coach park, and that time comes out of your four hours.
Is the abbey entrance included in the tour?
On the main coach trips, yes: the City Wonders coach, the budget independent coach and the small-group minivan all include the abbey ticket. Inside the abbey you visit on your own with an audio app or audio guide, so bring earphones. Bought direct, the abbey costs €16 from April to September and €13 from October to March. See abbey tickets and hours.
Is there hotel pickup?
Not on the coach trips. They meet at fixed points in west Paris: Place du Général Kœnig by Porte Maillot (17e) for City Wonders, Avenue de Suffren near the Eiffel Tower (15e) for the budget coach, and Avenue de Wagram (8e) for the small group. Only private tours collect you from your hotel.
Is it cheaper to go to Mont Saint-Michel by train?
Not by much. The direct train and coach from Paris Montparnasse costs about €32 each way per adult and takes around four hours; add the €16 abbey ticket and you are close to the price of the coach tour, with fewer departures and your own connections to manage. Compare them in train or tour.
Will I see Mont Saint-Michel surrounded by water?
Probably not on a day trip. The Mont becomes a true island only during the biggest spring tides, a few days a year, and the peak usually comes in the evening after the coaches have left. Most visitors see it rising out of wide sand flats, which is just as striking. Read the tides guide.
How many steps are there at Mont Saint-Michel?
A lot: the tourist office counts a broad staircase of about 350 steps up to the abbey, on top of the steep Grande Rue. It is not suitable for wheelchairs, and guests with bad knees should take it slowly and skip the ramparts.
Is there a dress code for the abbey?
The abbey is a historic monument rather than a working church, but the City Wonders listing asks for knees and shoulders to be covered. Pack a scarf or light layer. Comfortable shoes with grip matter far more: the streets are cobbled and steep. See what to wear.
Can you combine Mont Saint-Michel and the D-Day beaches in one day?
Yes, one bookable tour does both, but it runs about 15 hours and gives you roughly an hour and a half at the Mont plus the abbey. For either place done properly, pick one per day or take the two-day tour with a hotel night. See D-Day and the Mont in one day.
Where do you eat at Mont Saint-Michel?
Lunch is not included on any of the Mont Saint-Michel day trips. There are cafes, creperies and restaurants along the Grande Rue, and La Mère Poulard is famous for its soufflé omelette, which guests call a highlight but priced for the setting. Eat early, before the midday crowds.
Can I cancel my Mont Saint-Michel tour?
Yes. Every day trip listed here cancels for a full refund up to 24 hours before the start time on Viator. The 2-day Normandy tour needs at least 3 days' notice.
